Statement from Ezio Mauro, editor in chief of italian newspaper "La Repubblica"
About the agency takes coming from Afghanistan and reporting false news about Daniele Mastrogiacomo's activity, Ezio Mauro, editor in chief of "Repubblica" newspaper has stated the following:
- Hereby we declare that Daniele Mastrogiacomo, born in Karachi (Pakistan), September 30th, 1954, married with two children, is an Italian citizen.
- He has been a journalist of the newspaper “La Repubblica" since 1980, in charge of foreign politics. He has no relationship whatsoever neither with military organisms nor with police or Intelligence Services of any kind or country. In Italy he is also Advisory Member of the Regional Council of the Association of the Journalists (Lazio and Molise).
- He has been in Afghanistan since Wednesday February 28th and more specifically he has been in Kandahar since Sunday March 4th, exclusively and solely in order to write news reportages.
